What We Offer

Our Services

At Priory Lodge Vets we offer a wide range of services to help with all your pet's needs.

Veterinary Appointments

Our six experienced veterinary surgeons offer appointments for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. Although most people only think of visiting their veterinary surgeon when their pet is poorly, the importance of regular check-ups and preventative medicine cannot be over-emphasized. All of our veterinary surgeons additionally perform a full range of medical investigations and diagnostic procedures which are undertaken in our dedicated facilities.

Nurse Appointments

The nursing team offer free clinics to help with dietary advice, weight management, flea and worm prevention, or even to remove a tick from your pet. Additionally they are able to trim pets' claws for a small fee. Our nurses have the necessary experience to explain to owners how to administer medications safely and often help owners by demonstrating how to tablet a cat or even inject a diabetic pet. Come and speak to our nurses for good honest healthcare advice.

Laboratory

Blood and urine tests are processed daily in our well-equipped, on-site laboratory, allowing results to be obtained on the day of taking samples and within an hour for critically ill patients. We also use a number of excellent external laboratories for more specialised tests.

Imaging

We recently upgraded to state-of-the-art digital radiography and regularly use x-rays to diagnose disease in the chest and abdomen and investigate skeletal problems. Our digital ultrasound machine is an invaluable tool for diagnosing heart disease in cats and dogs. We also regularly use ultrasound to visualise abdominal organs as well as diagnose pregnancy.

Surgery

We use modern anaesthetic protocols and a trained nurse monitors each patient from admission through to recovery from surgery. Our sterile operating theatre is fully equipped and used daily for a range of surgical procedures including orthopaedic procedures such as cruciate surgery and fracture repair. We have considerable experience in performing some more advanced soft tissue as well as orthopaedic procedures as well as dedicated nurses and the necessary facilities to nurse your pet back to health.

Hospital and Critical Care

Our hospital provides a comfortable and safe environment for recovery from surgical procedures as well as convalescence during illness. The kennel room is equipped with air-conditioning and memory foam mattresses for your pet's comfort. We use a range of specialised nursing equipment such as infusion pumps and oxygen supplementation for critically ill patients. We believe that it is best to avoid transporting an ill or injured pet to an out-of-hours centre, therefore we do have nurses staying on the premises when we have a patient staying over.

Dentistry

Dental procedures are undertaken in our dedicated dental area using specialised ultrasonic equipment. We perform routine scaling procedures as well as more complicated dental surgery and extractions.

Travelling Pets

We have four veterinary surgeons that are OV (DEFRA Official Veterinarian) qualified. We are able to offer advice regarding pets travel and prepare the necessary certification. For those pets requiring export certification we are able to arrange for the relevant tests to be undertaken and for the paperwork to be completed. Additionally we aim to provide guidance regarding preventative healthcare for pets while they are abroad.

Euthanasia and Cremation

Inevitably this is a terribly sad and difficult time for pet owners. As a team, we aim to provide care and support throughout the process of euthanasia, both for the pet and for their owners. Some owners elect to bury their pets at home, but for those who would rather have their pet cremated we can arrange for this at Silvermere Haven, a registered pet crematorium. We can arrange for individual cremation if you would like to have your pet's ashes to keep or scatter.

Home Visits

We often do home visits for euthanasia purposes, allowing pets to pass away in a familiar home environment. For general medical purposes it is better to bring your pet to the surgery where support staff and equipment allows a more complete range of services, but we are happy to perform domiciliary visits where appropriate.

Dispensary

Our well-stocked dispensary ensures that our hospital patients can be treated without delay and allows our clients to collect prescriptions at the time of their appointment. We are also able to accept orders for repeat prescriptions on-line via our website.

Shopping

We stock a range of quality pet accessories and our friendly team will help you select suitable items and ensure a correct fit. We also have a range of pet foods and chews. Our web shop gives you the opportunity to browse our on-line catalogue from the comfort of your home with free home delivery when you spend more than thirty pounds.
