Pets at Home has recalled three lines of its AVA dry cat food products because there are lower levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1) present than specified in the recipe. Your cat should not eat affected product batches. The issue was confined to the variants for indoor / Neutered cats (1.5kg), Mature cats (2kg and 4kg) and Senior cats (2kg). All other products in the AVA range have been tested and shown to have the correct level of thiamine.
Thiamine deficiency in cats may impact a cat’s health. At least three cats have been identified which became seriously unwell after switching to one of the affected products and exhibited symptoms ranging from sudden collapse, fitting, widespread twitching and general unsteadiness which are not the classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.
Please contact us if your cat has shown similar clinical signs and have been eating the affected products.
