Euthanasia Services
Saying goodbye to a family pet is always a difficult and upsetting time, and if the decision needs to be made to put a pet to rest, it is never easy.
We understand this and, as pet owners and animal lovers ourselves, empathise with every client who finds themselves in this situation.
Our role is to provide all of the guidance necessary for our clients to feel that they are making the correct decision for their pet, and then to support them through the process in every way possible.
That means that we talk to you about what you need, and fit our service around your wishes and needs. This includes whether you would like to be at home during the euthanasia, when and how you want to say goodbye to your pet, and how you choose to commemorate them afterwards.
What does the euthanasia process involve?
On the day the euthanasia takes place, you will be given as long as you need to say goodbye, and we will ensure that you are not rushed or disturbed.
Once you are ready to proceed, an intravenous catheter will be placed into your pet’s front leg. We can do this in the room or elsewhere if that makes you feel more comfortable.
The next step is to give the anaesthetic injection. This takes less than a minute to take effect and causes no pain or distress for your pet.
After this we can again leave you alone with your pet for as long as you need.
What support is in place after the procedure?
You can choose whether to take your pet home for burial, or to have their body cremated. If you opt for cremation we can help you to arrange this.
It is completely natural to go through a grieving process after losing a pet. Our vets and nurses are happy to talk to you about this, and there are also many charities available who can help you through this difficult time.
Some owners can feel real loneliness, isolation and depression after saying goodbye. It is important not to feel embarrassed by this and to know that many others have felt the same.
