Orthopaedic Referrals

Priory Lodge Vets welcomes orthopaedic referrals from local practices. Our surgical team offers TPLO surgery for dogs of every size, with transparent costs, regular updates throughout the case, and your patient returned to your care once treatment is complete.

What we accept

TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy)
For dogs with cruciate ligament rupture, of any size, with surgery performed by Dr. Brink.

We are happy to receive cases where the diagnosis isn’t certain. If you suspect cruciate disease but haven’t been able to confirm it, you don’t need to put the owner through radiographs first. Send the case in without X-rays, and we will assess your patient here, which can save the client a significant cost.

Your surgeon

Dr Dirk Brink BVSc, PgC Small Animal Surgery, MRCVS

Dirk Brink

Dirk qualified from the University of Pretoria in 1992 and joined Priory Lodge Veterinary Group in November 1995, after several years in small animal practice in Cape Town. He performs most of the practice’s more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Treatment options for cruciate ligament rupture have evolved significantly over the past twenty years, and he has experience performing several of these procedures. Having performed closing wedge osteotomies for many years, he acquired the necessary orthopaedic equipment and completed a TPLO course during 2018. We still perform lateral sutures in selected scenarios, but the majority of cruciate ligament injuries are now treated with a TPLO procedure.

Dirk was awarded the postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Surgery during 2025 after two years of further study and practical work. Please note that this does not qualify him for RCVS Recognised Specialist status. We state this plainly so you can judge whether a case is suitable for referral.
